About McNamara Chiropractic Center

For more than 20 years, McNamara Chiropractic Center has been the Lighthouse Point practice that South Florida residents turn to when they want real answers and real results — not just a quick adjustment and a wave goodbye. This is the story of who we are, how we got here, and why the approach Dr. Carol McNamara Krauss has built over two decades produces outcomes that change lives.

Practice History

McNamara Chiropractic Center was founded by Dr. Carol McNamara Krauss, DC, who established the practice in Lighthouse Point, Florida. From the beginning, the philosophy was simple but demanding: deliver the most effective, evidence-informed care available, stay current with advances in technology and technique, and treat every patient as a neighbor — because in Lighthouse Point, they often are.

The practice has grown steadily through referrals and reputation, not advertising campaigns. When patients get better — when the person who couldn't sleep through the night due to sciatica goes six months without an episode, when the golfer who was told he needed knee replacement is still on the course two years later — they tell people. That word-of-mouth is the foundation of everything.

Over the years, Dr. McNamara has invested in advanced therapeutic technologies that go well beyond what most chiropractic offices offer: Class IV Laser Therapy, the Antalgic-Trac spinal decompression system, the Knee-on-Trac joint decompression device, and Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy. Each addition was made because the clinical evidence supported it — not for marketing value.

Today, McNamara Chiropractic Center offers combination therapy programs that integrate these modalities into cohesive protocols: the Knee Restoration Program, the Spinal Decompression Program, the Shoulder/Joint Program, and comprehensive Auto Accident care. These programs are built on the understanding that chronic musculoskeletal conditions rarely respond to a single treatment modality and require a layered, coordinated approach.

Dr. Carol McNamara Krauss, DC — Biography and Credentials

Education

Dr. McNamara earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic — the institution founded by D.D. Palmer in 1897 and widely recognized as the premier chiropractic institution in the world. Palmer graduates complete a rigorous doctoral curriculum covering:

  • Anatomy, physiology, and pathology at the level required for primary care assessment
  • Spinal biomechanics and neurology
  • Clinical radiology and diagnostic imaging interpretation
  • Chiropractic technique — a wide range of manual and instrument-assisted approaches
  • Differential diagnosis and appropriate referral protocols

Palmer's clinical training is extensive, requiring students to treat hundreds of patients under faculty supervision before graduation. The clinical experience is not simulated — it is real patient care.

Licensure

Dr. McNamara holds an active license from the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine. Maintaining a Florida DC license requires:

  • Completion of mandated continuing education hours each renewal period
  • Adherence to the Florida Chiropractic Practice Act
  • Good standing with no disciplinary actions

Her license status can be independently verified through the Florida Department of Health's provider lookup system.

Professional Memberships

Dr. McNamara is an active member of the Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA), Florida's largest state chiropractic professional organization. FCA membership reflects a commitment to staying current with the profession's evolving standards, clinical research, and advocacy for patient access to chiropractic care.

Clinical Philosophy

After two decades of practice, Dr. McNamara's clinical philosophy has been shaped by one persistent observation: the patients who achieve the best long-term outcomes are those who understand what is happening in their bodies and are active participants in their recovery.

This means Dr. McNamara takes time to explain — not just diagnose and treat. What does a disc herniation actually mean for daily life? Why does decompression help when manipulation alone has not? What is the realistic timeline for improvement? Patients who understand these things follow through, recover faster, and maintain their gains.

It also means being honest when a patient needs something beyond what chiropractic can provide. Dr. McNamara does not hesitate to refer when the clinical picture calls for it. That honesty is the foundation of the trust that has kept this practice growing for twenty years.

Our Team

Dawn Marie Teufel, LMT — Licensed Massage Therapist

Dawn Marie Teufel is a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) whose work complements the chiropractic and therapeutic modalities offered at McNamara Chiropractic Center. Therapeutic massage plays an important role in musculoskeletal recovery — addressing soft tissue restrictions, improving circulation, reducing muscle guarding, and preparing the body for chiropractic adjustment and decompression.

Dawn's expertise in clinical massage — distinct from spa or relaxation massage — makes her an integral part of the care team for patients with chronic muscle tension, sports injuries, and post-accident soft tissue injuries.

Mission and Philosophy

The mission of McNamara Chiropractic Center is straightforward: help people in South Florida recover from pain, avoid unnecessary surgery, and return to the active lives they love — using the most effective non-surgical tools available.

That mission is grounded in three commitments:

Clinical excellence. Every therapy we offer is selected on the basis of evidence and clinical outcomes. We invest in technology that works. We follow protocols that are safe and effective. We measure outcomes rather than simply counting visits.

Honest communication. We tell patients what we genuinely believe about their prognosis — the good news and the hard news. If surgery is the right answer, we will say so. If a patient can avoid it with the right non-surgical program, we will lay out exactly what that requires.

Community accountability. We have treated thousands of patients in and around Lighthouse Point over twenty years. Our reputation is our most valuable asset, and it is built one patient at a time. Every person who walks through our door is a member of our community, and they deserve care that reflects that.
